2017 Stations:
“Student Motivation Kits” for student encouragement
UUCA has been working to support Hope-Hill Elementary for decades. Hope-Hill teachers are always looking for ways to encourage and motivate students who are working hard to have fun and learn despite challenges. Teachers will be able to use these kits, filled with a variety of fun geegaws and happiness as encouragement, rewards, when kids need a pick-me-up - whatever teachers think will be most helpful.
At the station:
Choose kit items for each kit; assemble in a Ziploc bag.
“Emergency Room Kits” for kids and families
Families who arrive at the ER of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta might arrive in the wee hours, might have other siblings with them, and might be there for a long time. These “ER Kits” will have protein bars, light snacks, activities, and other goodies for when they need a break.
At the station:
Choose kit items for each kit; assemble in a Ziploc bag.
“Anti-boredom Bags” for kids undergoing treatment
Cure Childhood Cancer asks for activity bags and hard candies for kids undergoing cancer therapy. These bags bring some diversion and a sweet treat (lemon drops sometimes minimize nausea) for kids.
At the station:
Choose kit items for each kit; put kit items into a Ziploc bag.
Well-Wish cards for UUCA and VA Hospital patients
The VA Hospital outreach staff love to share messages of thanks, hope, and healing with patients. We can do the same with members of our Beloved Community - illness, injury, or times of stress can ALL be helped by knowing we care. Our Lay Ministry Team can use these hand-made cards as needed.
At the station:
Use card stock, markers, stickers, and a printed message of support to make a greeting card. Personalize with your name, a special message, or a smiley.
Handheld Pride flags to give out at Pride Parade 2016
UUCA has a long history of marching in the Atlanta Pride Parade. This year, we’ll have colorful rainbow flags to give out as we pass, including a QR code to help people find a UU congregation near them.
At the station:
Use pre-cut fabric and dowels to make flags, decorate with ribbons if desired, add the QR code sticker. (We'll be using hot glue guns - adult supervision will be provided, as needed.)
Sandwiches for distribution to Atlanta's homeless
The Kashi Yoga Center has a longstanding hunger outreach program, distributing basic sandwiches to folks in need.
At the station:
Assemble bread, cheese, and cold cuts to make simple sandwiches; store in Ziploc bags, add a label.
“Feed-a-Family" rice bags for immigrants to Atlanta
The IRC keeps small bags of rice on hand in their offices for when immigrant families need emergency support – food aid has not arrived, or has run out.
At the station:
Scoop 2C of rice into a Ziploc bag, add a label.
